Strengthening the W20

Gender Equality and Women’s Economic Empowerment at the core of G20

We believe that diversity and full participation of women are key factors for a prosperous world and essential for the resilient, sustainable and viable growth of stable economies and social development. Women20 is a driving force for pushing progress on the G20 commitment of „women’s full economic and social participation“ as per the G20 2012 Los Cabos declaration. We therefore call upon the G20 to promote gender equality and women’s economic empowerment as an integral part of the G20.

 Women20 urges the G20 to:

  • Provide funding for a permanent structure of W20 to ensure its continuity along changes in the G20 presidencies.
  • Strengthen the role of the W20 troika and increase collaboration with W20 supporting think tanks such as Chatham House and the G20 research group, to provide white papers, case studies and expert analysis to buttress the W20’s business and economic case.
  • Set a target of at least one third of female participants in engagement and working groups of G20 processes by 2020.
  • B20, C20, L20, S20, T20 and Y20 delegations to ensure that at least one third of their delegates are female by 2020.
