Curriculum Vitae
Amnesty International has been involved in influencing the outcomes of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) since 2010. Our initial goal was to ensure human rights were strongly embedded in the SDGs. Our main goal is to monitoring and advocating for delivery of the SDGs through a human rights lens which we think will provide us with an opportunity to reinforce economic and social rights mostly of women.
Many governments are already using the framework to set priorities and allocate resources. Argentina is one of those. It has set a compromise to work the SDG in all the levels but the true is that it has started in a very timid way. Governments, especially those who have not really delivered even on their immediate obligations will only respond and act if there is public pressure. If they do see pressure weaning, then will start dragging their heels. It will also be a self-fulfilling prophesy that the SDGs were never going to deliver. Thus maintaining the momentum over the next 2 – 3 years are crucial for lasting change.
Amnesty Argentina and specially myself as the Executive Director,- the only women Executive women Director of the Human Rights sector in Argentina- has been vocal in press on women issues and the 2030 agenda with special focus on SDG 5. I’m a vocal leader who has spoken out about the importance of fulfilling woman’s rights. We have been deeply working with the women agenda, violence against women, sexual and reproductive rights and gender equality not only in the public sphere but the private as well. People follow Amnesty. Our credibility is high and when we speak people listen carefully.
Realizing an egalitarian and law-abiding state requires the commitment of the government to uphold comprehensive human rights policies that include political, social and economic rights. Argentina faces the challenge, and the opportunity, of working toward a more inclusive society, respectful of all fundamental women rights.
My work as a lawyer and human rights defender is committed to assisting the Argentine government and society in efforts to improve the legal framework necessary to guarantee the rule of law and to promote a wider understanding of human rights. From my position I influence the public opinion and public agenda. Participating in the W 20 dialogue will give me more tools to be better prepared for pushing and promoting women empowerment in all society sectors as well as the other participants to learn from my experience and strategies.
